He has been injured so much over the past 6 seasons. I believe Bonds and Griffey Jr. would be neck and neck at this point if not for all those injuries. He has missed over 554 games in the past 6 seasons. That equals 3 1/2 seasons, prime years at an average of 45 per season, could have given him 158 more added to his current total of 578 = 736. But if he can stay healthy and play 4 more years he could still make it interesting. GO GRIFFEY JR!!!

im with you 100%. he would have been in the mix and with 4 or 5 great years he still could. he also would have held the true single season hr record. i believe he can still do it and truly hope he does.

Oh, yeah. He was on track for a reasonable shot at 900.

But the injuries are part of the game or else lots of player would have broken that record.

Mantle could have broken Ruth's record. Gerhig. Ted Williams could have if he hadn't served 5 years in the military (where he was one of the best fighter pilots, too!)

Definatley. Ken Griffey Jr. would be sitting right next to Hank Aarons record right now if he didnt get injured.

Yes. Cincinnati's new park, which I have not seen, is a great hitters park, and certainly Griffey could have averages another twenty five homers a year for the four or five years he was hurt putting him well into the 700's.

Yeah, probably, but such is the nature of the game. Give Bonds back a complete 2005 season as well, and he's probably already got Aaron in his rear view mirror.

i've always been told that Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Bond's are the greatest athletes ever in baseball but no onelikes them because they're asses...is this true?

yes he definitely could have. Injuries destroyed his chance. Even if he plays another four years, i don't think he has a chance. He is older and therefore not hitting as many. Also, he has to stay healthy for the entire season and that hasn't been happening.

Could of, Would of, Should of. No one cares except Reds fans.

But if you want to live in dreamland:

Willie Mays would have if he didn't have to play in Candlestick.

Ted Williams would have had he not had to go to the armed forces.

I agree with you, that man has power; mental and physical. We were soooooo excited that Griffey wanted to come to Cincy, but he came and has been hurt off and on since! But its cool, i've got hometown love!!!
