We are in a warm era. I saw a graph which showed that average temperatures have been gradually rising since the last ice age. But at the point where technelogical civilization began the temperature of the climate has been rising at a much faster pace. Most scientist agree that the effect of our burning of coal, oil and gas will cause the average temperature to rise even faster as we put tremendous amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. This acts as a blanket over the world making glaciers and the ice caps at the north and south pole melt causing a rise in the oceans and more and stronger hurricanes, among other effects on the climate.

Compared to Earth history as a whole we are in a cool era. For much of Earth's history the polar regions were free of ice. The present configuration of the continents makes the planet cold because it disrupts ocean currents that would otherwise feed warm water into the polar seas, making them colder.

Compared to the average climate of the Pleistocene we are in a warm era. The climate for our planet in the last few million years has been longer ice ages punctuated by shorter interglacial periods where the great ice sheets partially melt. The climate we now experience represents one of those interglacials, and barring human intervention (intentional or otherwise) we will probably enter a new ice age within the next 10,000 years.

No, I think we are in a cold era which is no longer cold, because of global warming.
