I wouldn't say its "rust" on my iron but a little bit of burn on it. How can I clean it? It's not even a year old and its not a cheapo iron either. Any suggestions?

old fashioned answer is to pour salt on your ironing board and then rub the iron on it. Essentially, you are sanding the iron. When it is clean, put paraffin or white candle on it to make it slick. There are some expensive irons I wouldn't try this on or non-stick finishes.

Try some baking soda on a damp non-scratchy sponge or cloth. It doesn't need to be warm when you do this. Baking soda removes starchy residue like spray starch and hair spray. You may want to finish with rubbing alcohol, but remember to let it completely dry before turning on the iron. Iron an old towel before next use to make sure there are no problems with the iron leaving marks from the cleaners.

Find a piece of rough material (denim etc) and sprinkle it with club soda. Turn the iron to the highest setting and "iron" the material. This will clean off the residue without scratching the surface. Learned this when working in restauants and cleaning the grill without scratching.

Go to Walmart and find the little tube that says "cleans irons". It works great!
