Hi
I haven't been to London Zoo for years. Im 29 now and was about 12 when i went and even then i didn't think much of it. Guess thats why i haven't bothered to go back.
Colchester Zoo is really good. They have alsorts of animals from big cats including white tigers, elephants, bears, Giant Anteaters, Lizards, Snakes, Monkeys, Deers, birds of alsorts to Penguins, Sea Lions, and Otters etc.
And it's cheaper too
Adults - £13.99

Senior Citizen - £9.99 (Over 60s)
Disabled Child - £4.99
Disabled Adult - £6.99
Under 3's Free

Yes that is about how much it costs two adults and one child to get into Chester about £30. Perhaps it should be remembered that some of these animals are very rare so there is a high expenditure. Staff costs are as always the largest item and although they are a charity the only money they get from the Government is the rebate on doners tax the same as any other charity. Your entrance fee is classed as a donation so i hoped you filled in the form if you are A UK tax payer. I do feel the same way as you but did you enjoy your day. if you had gone to say a show with them it would have probrly cost much more for less time. The answer is if you do not want to look at birds and other things as well you are throwing away your money although I must cinfess i do not like the Bat House at Chester By your decription of your stepchildren i feel you would have complained if it cost £10

Should have gone to Whipsnade, part of London Zoo, just up the M1 not far from Dunstable, up on the Dunstable Downs. If you do it properly it will take a whole day to go around. Take a picnic. They have all the big animals in natural settings, not sure about Pandas, however last time I went there were Polar Bears and Dolphins, though not in the same pool/enclosure.
Adult £16.00 Child up to £12.50 and Senior and Student £14.50. The web site link provides a discount on ticket prices.

Well i went to the Zoo today and they had
Elephants,Giraffes, Zebras, Monkeys, Sea Lions, penquins, two types of brown bear, lions, tigers, pink flamingos and a very large ape. The weather was wonderfull so some of the animals were not visible. Two adults and three children cost 25 quid and i thought that was expensive until i read your question.

Haven't been to Regent's Park zoo since I was a child in London. If you're north of the river which presumably you are, try Colchester zoo they've got what you're looking for.
I think you can even cage the evil stepkids for a modest fee.

Not just the Zoo , the whole of London is a rip off.
The only good thing about it is the cheap flights you can get there.
