No,lol. Have you seen some of those models. Alot of them arent exactly gorgeous but they have something special that gives them appeal. I dont know models by their names but flip through catalogs and magazines and look past the 10 pounds of makeup and the done up hair and picture them in jeans and a tee shirt and theyre (on average) no prettier than you. Some have features you dont normally see because theyre covered up in most pics. Christina Agulera has freckles, theyre cute but its a point and Cameron Diaz has alot of pimple scars. It dosent matter but point is these people arent as hot as they appear.

I don't think you have to be "drop dead gorgeous", as make-up and airbrushing can make you look a million times better anyway. I think you do need to be naturally pretty though, and also have quite symmetrical facial features. Having said that, there are some supermodels with odd features. It all depends on the person I guess.

It also depends on what type of 'model' you mean. If you mean catwalk model, then you just need to be a size zero with no hips or curves with an androgynous face. If you mean glamour model, then you don't need to be naturally pretty at all, you just need big boobs and hips and tons of make-up. If you're talking about catalogue or fashion models, I think mostly they just want you to be cute and natural.

The question is... why would anyone want to be a model?!

Sorry if I offended you... but I've always found the modelling industry to be very shallow.

There is quite a bit of airbrushing that goes on in magazines. And there are hair people, makeup people, and wardrobe people there at model photo shoots who, even if you are already drop dead gorgeous, that will make you look even prettier.

You do have to have some height (I'd say at least 5'6") and a pretty thin body to be a model. If you get an agency and you're not as thin as they want you to be, they will probably put you on an eating plan.

But basically to be a model you have to have some height, a decent body, and most importantly you have to be photogenic. Some girls are very pretty, but just don't look very good on camera.

But if you want to model, you should definetly pursue it because you will regret it later if you don't try.

Modeling is open to both male and female models and people of any ethnics or national background. While some modeling categories can have very specific height or weight requirements others can be more accessible. While there are some exceptions, in most cases female commercial models have to be at least 5'6 or 5'7 and usually no more than 5'11 tall (for male models at least 5'9). If you are 5'5 or under your chances of success are very limited in comparison to taller models. You can still try modeling if you are not within these requirements, but you will have far less chances of succeeding than if you fit within the requirements.
Your success will depend a lot on your looks, stats (height, weight, etc..) and your personality.

The short answer is no. Many people who are not "classically" or "typically" pretty can be very successful as models. Check out the website for America's Next Top Model. If you scroll through the girls pictures, you'll find many different looks. It's not necessarily a one look fits all industry, besides beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Different people will prefer different looks on the various models.

I don't think so. They want attractive people for sure, but it is possible to be too attractive--the photographers, the advertisers, the sponsors--want the viewers' primary focus to be on the product--the clothing, the jewelery, the car, whatever the product is. Drop dead gorgeous can get you some jobs that plain looks won't, but interesting looks can also get you jobs that some sponsors do not want drop dead gorgeous models for. Interesting looks seems to be the key.

Actually, if you saw photos of some of these young women, you will be totally surprised that they are not really so "drop-dead-gorgeous." However, there is some kind of "it" that they have which catches the eye of an agent or an agency.

A few things for sure: height, a certain body type, a fine complexion, and youth. These are some of the attributes common to all of them.

No, often enough the models used in runway shows aren't actually very pretty, but very tall and very thin. Models for magazines and catalogs have to be pretty, but they can't be too thin or too tall or else they won't fit into the clothing they are supposed to model. Magazine models are supposed to look like the girl next door, just a prettier version, whereas for runway models, its all about the height and thinness.
