I've heard that by using Western Union, wire transfers of money, guarantee payment to the seller, if you're trying to make a purchase, but you can really get srewed over if it comes to you receiving your merchandise, as they don't really have any disputes, or a process to guarantee shipment.

Is this true and therefore makes using western union as a form of payment instead of paypal/credit cards, a bit unsafe?

Thanks.

i used to be a western union agent

when they receiver picks up the transfer, they're required to show ID, which is entered (drivers license #, etc) into the computer system as well as kept on file with the agent.

lots of scammers use western union, but its mostly the stupid nigerian people who trick even stupider people.

if somebody is going to take your payment and not send you your purchase, they could do it just the same on paypal. i've been ripped of on paypal, but i've never seen anybody ripped off on western union (not counting really stupid people)

When it comes to Western Union they do not guarantee the buyer's protection. I bought a watch over ebay and the seller asked for Western Union. I never got the watch and when I tried to get my money back there was nothing i could do to get my money back. With credit cards you can contact your cc company and they will refund your money and paypal has a protection plan that will cover you minus a 25 dollar processing fee. With Western Union there is no protection. In my opinion it is unsafe unless you know who your seller is.

yes, if you are purchase items on ebay. it is highly recommended that you dont use that means for making your payment. You cannot initiate a Buyers Dispute if you use those methods. Paypal is highly recommended since you will be covered under their Buyers Protection.
