So far, I like Gates a lot. He seems to be intelligent, patient, hasn't stuck his foot up his mouth yet... mild mannered but serious. Is this guy too classy for this administration? Do you think the neocons will go after this guy if he doesn't play their stupid game?

He does appear not to be the usual YES MAN and Bush butt kisser. I lean left but like the guy. One of the few Bush appointees that seems good and honest.

at an identical time as i don't think Obama could have any Republicans or Bush linked cabinet contributors, the reason of the %. is sparkling. Obama desires to make a secure transition on the grounds that we are formally "at conflict" so retaining the Secretary of protection on till power has been transferred makes suitable sense. Neocons would be unable to blame Obama if some thing takes place early in the Obama presidency because of the fact he maintained the status quo initially. And who's the fool who thinks Paul Volcker replaced right into a Reagan appointee? Jimmy Carter positioned him in the Fed and Volcker is a Democrat. Geez!

No, because it's our government. Not Bush's. If the government has to be fixed one person at a time, so be it.

You people who throw around the word "neocon" need a new word. Bush is not a conservative, let alone a neo-conservative. I suggest "incompetants". Why not call them what they are? Why try to develop a label so you can smear a whole group of people with Bush's actions? Just because Bush is an idiot doesn't mean conservatives are.

I don't mean to smear any one party or political leaning. Both sides do this "broad brush smearing".

The game of politics is not a spectator sport and Gates can play with the big boys, but somewhere along the line he too will be wore down by the lies and deceit of the Bush administration

Give him time. Just association with Bush is political suicide anyway. He will eventually realize that and go for broke. He will be just like the rest of them. While he won't have as much time and the checks of the Democratic controlled Congress will stifle some of it he will fall in line or be out but since the administration ends in January of 2009 his time to screw up is less than some of the others have had.

No one in the Bush administration is 'classy.'

Oh , he will be out of there in a minute if he doesn't bend over for Bush. You have to be a team player in that group.. no matter that the team is fixed and crooked.
