Last I heard was that I would need a sensor as well so it doesn't "trip" out the computer system. What would you recommend on where to get an intake either online or offline...

I would recommend not fitting an intake. Even if you buy the MAF sensor or the HFM sensor or whatever it is, you won't get any HP out of that mod. If will sound neat-o but the air going to your motor is metered, and no matter what, you can't make the computer input more air to the motor. So at that point you are just sucking up warm air from the engine bay, and that will hurt performance more than help it. If you have a couple hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket, but a Jim C performance chip. That will actually MAKE horsepower.

An over-oiled filter or a badly designed/fitted filter can mess up your mass air flow sensor.

K&N makes some pretty good ones. They call it Fuel Injection Performance Kits (FIPKs). They are also not too expensive.

K&N kits are available from many parts stores such as Advance Auto Parts, as well as many places online.

You can even now get some K&N filters (at really good prices) from amazon.com!

I found a drop-in K&N filter for a Rav 4 there for under $20! I also bought a drop-in K&N for my gf's Mazda 6 there. Even has supersaver free shipping above $25 (or if you're Amazon Prime member, 2 day shipping is free)!

Look for a dinan or a "dinan style" intake. They extend below the headlight and pull colder air.

Look for a Cosmos Racing intake for e36's, they are a dinan style intake. Very nice sound and pretty easy to install. I can't get their site to load, but you can probably find one or another intake that is used on dtmpower.net or bimmerforums.com . You can always just remove the filter and add a new one.

There is a great website, devoted to BMW's and its after market parts. It is call bavarian auto parts i think that the web address is bavauto.com, You can really find almost any part of a car for almost any model in BMW history. Other than that there are also smaller parts shops for a wider array of cars other than BMW, But this website is devoted to BMW. Goodluck

When it gets cold out, the battery looses more of it's charge. It uses more battery power turning over a cold engine. And, the belts are probably worn. When you start your car, the alternator is trying to recharge the battery and the belt is slipping on the alternator pulley.
