Your computer has a Smitfraud infection.
Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove it. A specialised removal tool is almost always needed.
I would use SmitFraudFix for WinXP, Win2K. It's free.
"This tool removes Desktop Hijack malware: AdwarePunisher, AdwareSheriff, AlphaCleaner, Antispyware Soldier, AntiVermeans, AntiVermins, AntiVerminser, AntivirusGolden, AVGold, BraveSentry, MalwareWipe, MalwareWiped, MalwaresWipeds, MalwareWipePro, MalwareWiper, PestCapture, PestTrap, PSGuard, quicknavigate.com, Registry Cleaner, Security iGuard, Smitfraud, SpyAxe, SpyCrush, SpyDown, SpyFalcon, SpyGuard, SpyHeal, SpyHeals, SpyLocked, SpyMarshal, SpySheriff, SpySoldier, Spyware Vanisher, Spyware Soft Stop, SpywareLocked, SpywareQuake, SpywareKnight, SpywareSheriff, SpywareStrike, Startsearches.net, TitanShield Antispyware, Trust Cleaner, UpdateSearches.com, Virtual Maid, VirusBlast, VirusBurst, Win32.puper, WinHound..."

Good luck.

I also encountered this problem in my laptop since yesterday. The FREE antispy software that worked for me was the AVG ANTI-SPYWARE as recommended by another profile here. I just hope the probem will not reoccur.

These were the other ones i tried to run, apparently there is a fee to download the cleaner: 1. spy hunter; 2. spyware doctor

Hey there are millions off software over the net that are free anti spyware but only few are really what they claim to be. i had a lot of sypware trouble recently so i used avg anti-spyware. it had a 30 days trial after which the automatic update feature was taken away. but the spyware is 5 star. it took out all malacious stuff out of my pc. NOw its cleam as a whistle. Try avg it will help. I also have spybot but its not much of a help as it can't detect smart spyware.
good luck and be carefull chosing a software.

for spyware - acquire spybot 2008 (loose n person-friendly) for virus protection - acquire 'avast antivirus' (loose n incredibly person-friendly) - the two r sturdy courses, basically be careful with spybot - it incredibly is v. effective, yet luckily u can % what to delete after it reveals available undesirable information, basically dont permit it delete any registry information (C/residing house windows/System32) - those are substantial information - bypass away them on my own till issues persist - then get professional suggestion.
