might be nice if the USA spent a few decades minding their own business. There is plenty of business to mind.

That is a very good question and it can be answered two ways and i will answer the military side first because i served in the U.S.Navy & U.S.army,as well and I do not think it is fair for our U.S.military to become the world police send all over the world to resolve other countries if they are our allies fine but to contstantly have to take up fight for someone else and when things do not go right who is the first one these other countries blame the United States even though they asked for our help and when it goes astray what happens,I am the biggets supported of our military I know I've walked in there shoes and so has my son a U.S.marine on duty at camp Pendleton,California the day 9/11 happenedso we know and I support them one hundred fifty percent but I do not support this war and don\t tell me you can not support one without supporting the other because that is a bunch of crape okay.As for this government all I can say is that this is the worst federal government I have seen since the Nixon, era and I was a teenager during that era and I remember it very well it was one of the worst and Bush's administration ransk among the top five in my life time I hope once this Texas, two step is out of office that we will have some respectable government and congress with a new Preseident taking over and get the respect and admiration of the world back that we have truly lost since this bird brain has been in office and let me tell you I did not vote for him either time whew! I can sleep peacefully at night knowing I did not, this is a damn good country and just like during the Nixon, administration it was damaged and had to repair its self once again we have to go through this again they say history has a way ofrepeating its self and believe me it has only worst with this administration and interesting both administrations Repiblican,Helloooo,Ha! I'm and (Independent).

The idea of the US being some sort of "parent" to the rest of the world to take care and protect them is very "cute".

But that's not what really happens. The US does it when it's for its own convenience.

The US spends billions, trillions of dollars on things that make no sense while many of its citizens are almost starving.

Many of the problems the US is helping to solve around the world are created by its own people (e.g. drugs).

If the US minded its own business, tried to keep everything inside the country fair and right, there would be no need to go and stick their noise in other countries' affairs.

You do understand, don't you, that this is one of the most hated countries in the world despite all the "help" we give the rest of the world? Do you know why that is? because the US "helps" other countries and then treats them like rubbish, like second class citizens and takes advantage of their lower position.

Sad, isn't it.

How about the role for the U.S. in the world is just as another country. Not one that wants to be superior. Not one that brags it is the best. Certainly not one to tell other nations how to solve their problems when we have not solved our own.

The days of the U.S. being the "big brother" to all, are over. We are just another country. Struggling with unemployment, racial differences, over population, the environment etc. etc.

We are one of many... in this case size does not matter.

Once we start just living and letting live and not sticking our noses into everything.. we may have some peace.. at home and abroad.

You know, this is one of the most difficult questions out there.

If we get involved in playing "policeman for the world", the rest of the world gets pissed off and screams bloody murder. Evidence -- all the garbage going on over Iraq and Afghanistan.

But if we decide to sit back and stay out of it, the rest of the world gets pissed off and screams bloody murder, because we're ignoring the horrors and atrocities going on. Evidence -- places like Darfur.

The US is going to be blamed for things we had no hand in whatsoever -- like the mess in the Middle East that was born out of the Balfour Declaration of 1917 -- which was enacted by the British and French!

It's one of those cases where we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't. We're the biggest, richest, most powerful nation in the world today, so why don't we DO SOMETHING. But when we do, they all scream, "WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?"

It's enough to make you want to puke.

PS - bombastic -- excellent response!

Quite frankly it has been a long "8" years since we had any status in the world. I'll get back to you in "08" when a real leader enters Pennsylvania Ave, with the name Clinton back on the mailbox. . .

Right now we're playing the role as everyone else's mother. I think we're practically one of the very few countries that have their head on straight. We're not trying to police the world, we've already got the upper hand when it comes to decision making. It's about taking responsibility, stepping up, and making a change. And because we believe in freedom, justice, fairness, and we have the best military capabilities and technology, we're obligated, in a sense, to be the one who sort of looks after everyone else.

The United States must not use its superpower status to impose what it wants for the world. It must respect the independence of other countries.
