what make you think that children would respect their teachers, parents, law officers, boss and other figures of authority.
They learn from their parent's example.

Your thoughts?

I disagree with many of you because I believe you lie. Not one of you if you disagreed with your boss, clergy or any administrator would disrespect them. So your respect was not earned it went with the office.

I agree with you the first impression young children learn everything is from there parents but you also have to consider what age of the children u are referring about if they are truly young than it won't matter, but if there at the age where they understand a little about why you are so upset at the President and if you can explain to them why you are so upset were they can also understand than I do not see what is so wrong with being upset with the highest office in the land.
My three young grandchildren ages 5&3&7months old well the oldest two know when I am upset do you really tin they care at that age that is my point at that age they could care less as long as I am not upset with them that is all they care about.
So it boils down to the age of the child that depends on how they will respond to teachers, law officers etc,and how you teach them and at what age they are.

Respect is earned, not just given away to whoever gets a job/obtains votes/has sex. As such, a teacher, political offical, or even a parent doesn't always deserve respect.

However, if adults teach children the idea of giving respect to those who have earned it through their actions, and then act in a way that should earn them respect, then there is no problem.

And please do note: Politeness and respect are totally different. Politeness should be given to all, respect.....not so much.

Disagreeing with the president is not disrespect nor is disagreeing with any of the other authority figures mentioned. It is best to tewach our children to think critically about the issues.

respect is earned position be damned!!!!!!

people who earn respect are very well respected and those that are disrespected have earned that disrespect.

you can't assume children will respect you because of who you are.... it must be mutual.

and the disrespect that surrounds the highest office in the land is what he himself has earned!!!!!!

i don't like our current "president" and am open and honest with my son as to why that's OK...he also knows respect is earned but that there are some adults he must respect whether he likes it or not because he is a child, and that there are consequences (spankings) if he does not
