We are going to visit relatives in the Boston area and would like to bring them out to dine in a good Boston seafood restaurant

Legals is a chain restaurant, and their prices, service and quality reflect as such. This isn't to say that you can't get a great meal. But really, to show off Boston's finest, I don't think that's it, sadly. . . .I would say Atlantic Fish or the Noname. Union Oyster House is nice too.

Legal Seafoods! Wicked good seafood, great atmosphere, they do have several locations so some might consider it a "chain" seafood restaurant but they still have high quality, made from scratch food!
I'm from Cape Cod originally but now live in Arizona. Whenever I fly back from Boston I always get some Chowder at the Legal Seafoods in the airport! Yum!

Please don't bring them to Legal Seafoods. It is a chain restaurant and boring. If you are looking for "authenticity" with that old Boston flavor go with the Ye Olde Oyster House in Faueil Hall. It's crowded on the weekends so try to make a reservation. Its got Boston charm and is one of the oldest restaurants in the city.

The Altantic Fish Co. in Boylston is also good but is more "upscale" in feeling but they have sidewalk seating which is good if it's a nice night out.

I also agree that The Chart House is great, pricy, but aren't all quality seafood restaurants? lol!

I think the best seafood in the area is not really in town, but on both the North and South Shores. But if that isnt an option, the Daily Catch opened a branch by the Moakley Courthouse. There's also the No Name and the Barking Crab (both have outdoor dining and are super-casual). If you're looking for finer dining, I've had great luck with both McCormack & Schmick and with King Fish Hall (both at Faneuil Hall).

I recommend the Chart House over Legal Seafood. Legal is a pretty big chain, and I find their seafood just isn't as good. Plus, the Chart House is by the Aquarium on the water.

For a more casual atmosphere (more of a lunchtime dining experience) go to Courthouse Fish on Cambridge Street (near 6th Street intersection) in Cambridge. Order the baked stuffed schrod and ask for extra topping. Yummy!

The Barking Crab or Legal Seafoods

Atlantic Fish
761 Boylston St
Boston, MA 02116
Fri-Sat 11:30AM-12:00AM
Sun-Thu 11:30AM-11:00PM
Tel: (617) 267-4000

Been in business since 1978, so they're doing something right! Not sure how "nice" of a place you're looking for - this one's a bit pricey, but well worth the experience.

I second Legal Seafood. I was there once at the one in the Galleria. The service was kind of slow that night, but the food was INCREDIBLE.
