ok so I have a 30 gal. tank and my 2 black convict cichlids just had babies...what do I feed them and how long will it take them to grow???..any other info would be great!! thank you!

o, I live in a SMALL town and the only way I can get food is at wal-mart and i dont think they sell fry food so anything else???....

The fry (baby fish) will subsist on their egg-sac for the first couple of days after becoming free swimmers. They will then start to seek out food, nibbling on whatever is growing on the rocks and glass in the tank. To give them a boost you can finely grind up flake food, mix it with some water, and using a syring or eye dropper inject the mix near the little guys.

Also the parent convicts will eat food and chew it up with many small pieces coming out through their gill covers, the young will also feed on that.

You can make your own fry food from things you can buy at a Wal-Mart. Here is a website that tells you how. Scroll down until you get to a big red number 4.

I think walmart has the fryfood, it comes in a little package and is like a powder
But you can alos powderrise the regular flake food
