Muslims believe Islam is a restoration of the uncorrupted faith of Abraham. It is believed that Mohamed first received a revelation from God during meditation in a cave in the mountains that surround Mecca (in Saudi Arabia). He gained some followers in Mecca before being driven out by the pagans and fleeing to present day Medina. The pagans continued to attack Mohamed and his followers until Mohamed gained enough followers to attack and take Mecca and destroy the pagan idols. Today Mecca is the holiest city in Islam and the Muslim devout pray in the direction of the city and many go on pilgrimages to the city. Medina is the second holiest city and the burial place of the prophet Mohamed.
