Hi there, I recently got a new battery put in my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am car and of course, the theft lock is on now. I don't have the code to get the lock off. I called the previous owner who didn't know. I called a dealership who stated that I would have to bring it in and they could get the master code from GM. Can't I just call them for the code or is there a master code? I just don't want to have to pay to fix my radio that I didn't break!! Thanks :)

Might be cheaper than a dealer.
Also, buy a computer memory saver--it's a device that plugs into your cigarette lighter and runs off a 9 volt battery to keep from losing computer or radio memory when you remove your battery---good tool to have. Parts stores carry it or online.

no master code, or it would defeat the purpose of security. The code can be retrieved by the dealer, but they have to have access to the radio and it's serial number. They won't just give it out over the phone, just in case you stole the vehicle or the radio, etc. I would hold the person or company responsible for installing the battery, and make them pay any incurred charges to have your radio unlocked.
