I had gestional diabetes with my second pregnancy and now I have it again with this pregnancy. I am almost 33 weeks and went into pre-term labor yesterday which they gave me something to stop the contractions. According to the ultrasound my baby girl is already 5 pounds. I know with the second pregnancy I was induced at 38 wks but I feel if they wait to then they baby is going to be 10 pounds. So my question is what is the earliest will a doctor induce? I know 36 wks is considered full-term so will they induce then?

I just found out through my diabetic nurse that comes out 7 days a week and collects my readings that the hospital faxed them some results that they got back after my release yesterday and that they found protein in my urine. So now I have been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. She told me to make sure a drink plenty of water. Is there anything else I should do?

If you have protein in your urine, it means you have had some high blood sugars. You do need to drink waaaay more water than you think is possible and also try to stay away from as much sugar/carbs as possible. Not sure if they have you on any meds to help control your blood sugars??

I dont have the diabetes like you, but I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks as well. They gave me things to stop it as well, and then I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Im a little over 35 weeks now and no baby, hes hanging in there.

You have obviously never been to the NICU. If you dont know what that is, it stands for Newborn Intensive Care Unit. If they induce you now, your baby will have to spend a good deal of time in there, learning to suck, swallow and breathe at the same time. Your baby will also most like have a sleeping condition in which they forget to breathe. 98% of 33-34 week old babies have this, and it can be dangerous.

Please wait until at least 36 weeks to ask to be induced, the NICU is not somewhere you want to ever have to be.m Ive been having contrations for 2 weeks now, and Im ready for him to be born, but not at any cost. So what if shes a big baby, at least she will be healthy and you will be able to take her home and hold her, not look at her with tubes and wires through an incubator.

Good Luck, Best Wishes

They told me that my son weighed over 5lbs at 35 weeks, but I don't think they were accurate, because he was born at 38 1/2 weeks and only weighed 6lbs 13oz... 3 1/2 weeks later...and they say they gain about 1lb a week at the end....if they were right he would have weighed at least 8lbs... they also told a girl I know that at 36 weeks her baby weighed over 8 lbs, she was born at 40 1/2 weeks and only weighed 7lbs and 11 oz... so they were wayyy off.....

even though big a GD baby is at a higher risk than most babies if born early. even 36 wks is really pushing it. if you are in tune with your body and listen to it and use different positions to birth its not likely you will have problems getting a big baby out.
my 10 lb kiddo was easier than my 7 lb one to birth.
