You need to be very careful about OTC meds while you are pregnant, especially during the first trimester. It is best to contact your doctor. Usually for cold and allergies the following are safe:
ALLERGIES:
Benadryl (Will cause drowsiness) No other allergy meds!
COLD/FLU:
Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Tylenol Cold
Warm salt/water gargle
Saline nasal drops or spray
Sudafed, Actifed, Dristan, Neosynephrine*
Robitussin DM, Trind-DM, Vicks Cough Syrup, Romilar, Halls*
*Do not take "SA" (sustained action) forms of these drugs or the "Multi-Symptom" forms of these drugs.
Good luck and God bless you and your little miracle! :)

I have switched doctors and have had two doctors tell me two different things. My current doctor believes that the less chemicals I put into my body the better. Check with you doctor to get name brands of things you can take.
If your allergies seem to be worse right now . . . it's all part of the hormonal changes. Eventually they will mellow out and you will feel a little more on the "normal" side.
I choose to grin and bear it!!!

My sister is pregnant and the doctor told her to only take OTC Tylenol when she was sick. I would call your doctor and ask first before self medicating while pregnant. I am sure that there are things he can prescribe you that are safe during pregnancy!! Good Luck, and I hope you feel better!

Thats a big fat no. Even prescriptions can be harmful. Anything with a decongestant, or an antihistamine is detrimental to the development of the baby. It raises your, and the babies BP and heart rate, which keep oxygen from flowing freely through the placenta. It can also cause other problems with things like you and your babies ability to manufacture certain vitamins, and absorb certain minerals.
Use saline nasal spray a few times a day to keep the allergens flushed out of your nose. It will help a lot.

Check with your doctor. Mine gave me the go-ahead to use Claritin or Benadryl when I needed them. Also, saline nose spray and sleeping in a clean, closed bedroom with a HEPA-style air filter running helps if you're nervous about taking medication.

Benadryl is safe if you are in atleast the 2nd trimester. Meds arent a good idea before then.
