Why do people on Yahoo! Answers ask questions about their personal lives to random strangers? Do you think that's kind of dumb too? Why/why not

I've been thinking the same thing! They come on here and ask questions like, "Does he like me?" and "Which guy should I choose?" And they're telling you who they're sleeping with like you have any idea who/what they're talking about. I'm just like, "Ask your friends, your parents, at least someone who you can talk to face to face!" I'm not sure what those people are thinking.

Sometimes the questions people ask are not stupid, but I think "Why would you ask that here?" Like "I think my baby has 3rd degree burns, what should I do?" But often it's just people reaching out to someone - anyone, to get an opinion on things they can't ask anyone they do know. Or as in my case, don't have anyone else to ask at all. It's an outlet to say how you feel about something and see how others feel at the same time. Not so dumb all the time, just now and then.

I don't know. Ask some of these questions to random strangers on the street and see where it gets you.

You know what... I think it's just like going to a psychologist or a doctor for the first time. You have to tell them something in order to get some help.

I think on here it's just the thrill of seeing what other people think rather than really getting help. Only professionals (e.i. doctors, teachers, lawyers) can truly help you with serious problems and they know that too!

I hope.

Well, at least they get to be able to talk to some people with the same interests as you somehow. Maybe they can't ask some people they know cuz that may embarass them. So asking randomn people won't really know them and wouldn't care but to just answer the question.

Sometimes I am amazed also, but really think about it if you have something embarrassing to ask would you rather ask a bunch of strangers that you do not know and never have to see or someone you see everyday?.....

No , not if you want an honest answer... Sometimes people don't tell you the truth.... And sometimes there is no one you trust to tell so telling complete strangers is easier...
There are a hand full of great people here...

Well it's kinda dumb and kind of a good idea. Sometimes they're doing stuff like "i plugged up my toilet with the biggest crap ever" and sometimes they're really seeking advice.

No... it's fine. They're not giving out too much information, so I don't see how it's weird or dumb. And if you post a question saying "I have a question".... THAT'S dumb because obviously you do have a question. "I have a question" isn't even a question.

No, it isn't dumb. They are simply seeking advice and reassurance, and sharing their lives with us.

A large part of what Y!A is about is helping each other.

If you don't like those questions, skip 'em!
