I am wanting to make a bread basket out of clay. I plan on using the piece to keep my bread warm on the table so I want to be able to put it in the oven for 10-15 minutes prior to use to heat up. I know that I will need to get my piece fired and I am able to do that. What I don't know is what type of clay to use! Also, would I glaze it or just leave it natural?

This is the general idea of what I'm wanting to do:

use stoneware clay, and leave it natural, glaze will just start to crack with repeated heating and cooling.

You need professional pottery clay. If you have access to a kiln, then you must have a place that sells potter's clay. You would need to glaze the portions that would touch food. Most people glaze the entire item (inside and out) except for the very bottom that touches the surface of the table or kiln.

Looking up a place that teaches pottery may be of help as they can guide you through the process and they may rent kiln time if yours isn't big enough for the job.
