Two leaders of Iraq’s labor movement will tour a dozen U.S. cities between June 4 and June 29 to address members of Congress, union members, and the general public about the impact of the U.S. occupation on the Iraqi labor movement and the lives of working people. They will also talk about why Iraqi unions oppose the proposed oil law being pushed by the Bush administration that would give control of 2/3 of Iraq’s oil reserves to foreign oil companies.

Why are we in Iraq if not for the oil while Bush is in control? Is the war helping the people by destroying their land and their people? Why not just pay the "good guys" in Iraq the money that we're spending on war until the Iraqi people get on their feet and save American lives?

I am not a Democrat or Republican. I vote for a person based upon their past votes and reputation. However, here is a letter written about the $5 trillion dollars worth of oil.

You're following a very one-sided view of the story. The only view you're looking at is from unions, which have their own agendas and vested interests. I'm not saying that's wrong, it's just true.
Please, please, please, can we finally drop the silly notion that we're in Iraq for oil?! Say whatever you want about the war, and there is plenty of bad to talk about, but war for oil is just silly and wrong. If we went there for oil, then why didn't we take any? Why are gas prices so high?
We went to Iraq, right or wrong, to protect ourselves from terrorists and stop Saddam from funding them or selling them weaponry that could do great harm to us. In hindsight, maybe it wasn't necessary. But hindsight is always 20/20.
Now that we're there, we can't just leave. That would expose millions of Iraqis to untold horrors, including murder, torture, and rape - much like the life they experienced under Saddam. This is because the "good guys", as you put it, are not yet strong enough to hold off the "bad guys".
And, though not generally reported by the media, most of Iraq is not destroyed. There are many new schools, which for the first time EVER, girls are allowed to attend. We're constructing lots of new buildings, digging wells, running electricity.
Is Iraq a good situation? No. Is it the apocolypse as portrayed by the media and opportunistic politicians? No.

Why is the US military forced to "stay the course" and what is the course?
Imperialist, corporate and military expansion, in a word, fascism; the corporate control of the state. Not oil, but survival of the capitalist empire known as the Federal Government. This type of animal requires more and increasing territory, resources, and 'slave' labor to survive and provide returns on investments. Wish it was really oil, that would be an easy fix, right?
Sorry.

if this war was about "oil",.....president Bush would have turned on the spigot a long time ago,.....remember that Iraq, has the second largest oil reserve in the world,.....why would a man like the president take all the heat he has, if he turned on the spigot, he would be a hero, and gas would be a lot less expensive,.....

i think of he means to stay till a sturdy Iraqi government that the U. S. government approves of is acheived. regrettably stay the course has come to intend to proceed doing precisely as we've been doing, and that's no longer acheiving something yet giving us a bigger black eye interior the middle east. there have been no WMD. there have been no terrorists till we allowed them to pass the border. there has been way too plenty BS rhetoric attempting to hide the blunders and not sufficient paintings to ultimate them.

Riddle me this liberal genius; if we are in the war for oil why is the price of gas so high?
I love your argument "OIL"; you should really play sinister music when you say it or better yet say "BIG OIL", that is scary.
I was chiding the last leftwing nut that I answered because he played the race card. I also suggested he say it was for the children but silly me I left out "BIG OIL".
So lets recap; whenever you want some unsuspecting fool to adopt your ideas without questioning them use the following sound bites
1)Racism
2)BIG OIL
3)It is for the children
4)If it saves just ONE life it will be worth it.
Hope I helped.

It is not about the oil. This has been disproven on this forum repeatedly.
Ordinarily people live and learn. Apparently you just live.
