Japan saw an opportunity to expand and took it. They saw an eventual confrontation with the U.S. and decided the timing would work in their favor.
The fighting between Germany and Russia was a deciding factor. Russia was in no position to ally with the U.S. in the Pacific; they were dug in too deep defending Moscow and their other economic centers. Germany stalled in the Russian winter just before Pearl Harbor. Presumably, Germany promised to ally with Japan if they started a front against the British and U.S. in the Pacific.
Japan recognized that the U.S. was getting stronger economically, but believed the U.S. was very weak militarily.
Agriculture played a much bigger role in WW II than people remember. Drought and soil erosion had reduced food supplies around the World.. Big countries on little islands, like Britain and Japan, required foreign trade to eat.

Basically because the US had an embargo against Japan's getting oil from their territorial acquisitions in SE Asia. Japan was dependent upon getting foreign oil and the US was "cramping" their getting it. They had no domestic oil sources of their own. Some Japanese Admiral decided that if they struck Pearl Harbor and destroyed America's Pacific fleet, they would prevent American from interfering...But another Japanese Admiral said something to the effect that that would just be setting off a hornet's nest! Sure enough! It did!
Teamed up with germany and japan beacaus ethey had similar objectives.

America entered World War II essentially because Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The government had considered/wanted to join the war (in Europe) before that, but the country wanted to maintain its policy of isolationism. Pearl Harbor is what made the population abandon isolationism and want to go to war. The US was attacked, we had no choice but to declare war. We also joined the war in Europe to aid our allies of Britain and France (who we had been helping with such programs as Cash and Carry).
The Allied war plan from here on out was to focus on the war in Europe. Once it was over, and our allies (mainly the Soviet Union) were free to recover and use extra troops, we would crush the Japanese. The Soviets proved to be less help then we expected, but this is essentially what the US did.
As for Japan teaming up, in a WORLD War, with such superpowers as Britain, the Soviet Union, and the US against you, you need allies. All the axis powers wanted world domination, and to dominate the world, you need strength, so they teamed up. The Japanese rarely (or never) helped Germany and Germany did not aid the Japanese (Italy is out of the question, their help in WWII only slowed the Germans). In fact, when the Soviets were busy fighting the Germans on the western side of the Soviet Union, the Japanese could have raided their factories from the east, but instead decided to focus on their war. In fact, a famous Japanse military leader basically realized the Japanese were doomed to failure from the start (of attacking the US, that is).
Part of the Japanese war plan was to conquer all of the Pacific and create indistructable air bases. Japan had always been low on natural resources, and as a booming power, they needed to acquire more (especially oil). They had essentially conquered the Pacific, except for the islands of Hawaii. They decided if they conquered Hawaii, the US would be unable to attack their bases (No planes could fly that long, and aircraft carriers could be bombed).
The Japanese didn't really want a war with the US, just to control the Pacific, and to dominate the Asian countries.

Japan attacked America because we blocked access to all oil in Asia when they were taking over. The Japanese knew that they had to rely on other countries' oil, and because they were a lone island in the Pacific, they knew that they were dead if their supplies were cut. America was well aware that the oil and petroleum was going to be used to take over Asia, so Japan "thought" they (america) was going to attack them. The Japanese has made tons of "midget submarines" (a 2-man sub) in case of an invasion. But it was the other way around, japan attacked America so they will be slowed down on their tracks to start the war in the Pacific. Pearl Harbor was the effect of all of this.

The US wanted Japan to withdrawal their troops from Asia. Instead they escalated, the US retaliated by an embargo cutting off their natural resources, (oil) and Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. On Google earth, you can see where the war began and ended in Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona was sank and destroyed and can be seen is where it started, and nearby is the USS Missouri on witch deck the Japanese signed the instrument of surrender.

Dec.7 Th is a day that will live in infamy, the day that the Japanese Zeros and Navy attached Pearl harbor. This was not totally unexpected, (although the exact spot may have been, because our decoders were not great in the early days of the war)because there was much tension between the US and Japan about selling scrap metal, oil and trade in general. The Japanese got smarter after we helped reconstruct them, and now they are beating the pants off of us with a trade imbalance, in their favor, you can be sure.

No Japan replaced into no longer attacked by potential of the U. S. and replaced into far from being harmless. the eastern had attacked China killed 1000's of hundreds of chinese language civilians previous to international conflict 2 even beginning in Europe. you may desire to seem on the therapy of the Koreans, movements taken in Manchuria and learn the movements in Nanking until eventually now you communicate with regard to the harmless eastern. the U. S. replaced into very plenty in an isolationist mode at th time and had no purpose of combating everybody until eventually the eastern attacked Pearl Harbor; even then the U. S. did no longer declare conflict on Germany yet extremely Germany declared conflict on the U. S. in keeping with a treaty that they had with the eastern.
