well to me it sounds like youve got a problem with your clutches(or clutch for a manule) automatic transmissions have a different style clutch its a sealed case...imagine putting 2 fans facing eachother and turning one on.....the other dan will be forced to spin...but in a auto transmission its not air its a liquid so try checking the fluid ammounts if its not that autos have at least 20 clutches and if there worn there only gonna slip...theres another possibility and that is that a uni joint (universal joint) has been worn..these joins allow somthing spinning (eg. tailshaft or axel) to spin freely when changing the angle of one end--hope this helps--

Most older cars were designed with ajustable bands in the transmission however Adjustments are done by torqueing and if you do not have the specs on the torque you can mess them up and need a new transmission. Take it to a reputable transmission shop and have the bands adjusted.
Good luck

It's definately time for a new one. I had the same problem in my 1996 Pontiac GA. The clutch was bad. There were metal shavings and the fluid was burnt. I would look into having the tranny replaced. Best wishes!!!

Check the trans fluid level. Have car on level surface. Pull dipstick and read instructions on the stick. It will tell you how to check fluid - whether car needs to be in park or neutral. Wipe stick. Insert making sure it goes all the way in - pull out and check level. Wipe and check again to make sure. I suspect you are just low on fluid. Make sure you buy the correct fluid for your car and top off filling it though the same tube as you checked the level.
Good luck!

First thing to do is be sure you've got enough trans fluid in it. If so, then trans is most likely toast.
