Randy...you don't have a grinder....You have a small food processor. One of those little two bladed devices that BEAT thing to smaller sizes. A coffee grinder will have two sets of grinding surfaces, some type are discs some are cones. Anyway, you will not find much improvement, other than a tad more flavor from this process. Also, since you will probably be buying beans from a market and not a roaster, the coffee will not be anywhere near fresh. BUT you are on the right track. DO yourself a favor and find a local roaster that will sell you FRESH roasted coffee, not several month old beans that have been shelved in a stockroom or warehouse. Or go radical and go back to the way of your great grandparents....Roast your own.... Oh, and to the question of how long....the longer you run it the hotter the grounds get and the worse it will taste.

I buy Vittoria Premium High Altitude Mountain Grown. Its pre ground and it comes in a black tin with 5 200gram packs inside, its cheaper than the individual supermarket packs of the same brand. I don't have a grinder, but I keep meaning to buy one...... the smell of grinding coffee is sublime. I have heard that Yemeni Mocha is the best coffee in the world, but I have never had any..... though the Gloria Jeans in the mall sells a Yemeni blend.

whole bean ground at home releases the freshness in the bean. a package of already ground coffee , who knows when it was ground and the freshness has been weakening since. we have a Cuisinart grind and brew. it makes the best cup of coffee you'll ever taste . put the whole grounds in the top and it grinds and blends all in one process. a bit pricey but well worth the extra $ spent. i guess the flavor depends on you're specific taste. but nice fresh cup of grind and brew you wont need those crazy flavors. enjoy!

Whole bean - ALWAYS - as soon as you grind the beans, they start losing flavor. You really CAN taste the difference.
I like the Rainforest Blend from Caribou (Costco JUST started carrying it - YIPPEE!) Makes GREAT iced coffee!

I buy pre-ground but I have a grinder at home. I have not used it yet. I love starbucks coffee and Kona. They taste great even when brewed at home.

Whole bean... makes "blends" SO much easier to make... plus IMNSHO..you get to "release" the flavor right at brewing time, instead of having it ground sometimes MONTHS in advance....
