Thanks for asking.
A day off to me is 'extra time", "special time"--it's like putting found money into your mental bank account.
You want even less than usual to spend it o to use it up unwisely.

So, I try to apply a day off's hours to "priorities".
Priorities come in three flavors--doing what needs doing first, what is most important to me or what has to be done before something else/other things can be done.

That's why my day off is spent one of three ways.

Way One--doing the necessary that's most available and can be done now. So I might do the wash early and then go someplace and rest, go down by the water or up into the mountains, or else use the time to do things at home that will free me in the future from having to do that stuff
on other days.

Way Two--I do something I can ONLY DO on a day free of the usual burdens, duties and time-wasting exactions. I
might read that great book I've been meaning to read, go someplace that takes all day to visit, spend time with someone I haven't seen for too long, go to a museum or a play or new place and have lunch, or listen to music, watch a VCR or DVD tape and cook something special--or order those old radio show MP-3s I've been wanting; and listen to an hour of them at night.

Way Three--is to do some preliminary things for future actions, cook ahead for the week so I can get time free on four nights next week, do something that makes the car work better, take a walk to clear my mind, go to the zoo and forget my troubles caused by other people's failures or go shopping and get what I've been needing to make life go more smoothly.

The key here I'd say is that what you do on a "day off"should be something you can do without much stress and without any quality of the ordinary about it.
It needs to be anticipated, planned ahead and then just done, enjoyed--and hopefully remembered.
Doing something memorable happens once in a while partially by accident; the rest of the time it's the result of looking ahead so you can eventually look back on it with great pleasure.

Happy Day Off! Whenever you get another...
