I don't know but I don't know that I should so that is probably why I don't know.

For me, it depends upon the situation. If it's the sudden death of a close friend or relative, I'll probably have a lot more difficulty suppressing my grief. If the death is expected (terminal illness), I might hold it together better. If it's a break-up with a guy, I may or may not be able to suppress it well. It depends on how much I cared for him, or how hurt I feel.

I have reacted both ways to grief. I have cried uncontrollably (having my dog put to sleep), and I have also handled grief with little or no tears (break-up with a guy). I can never predict my reactions. I prefer to hold up and be strong whenever possible, but it doesn't always work out that way.

It depends on the person, but suppressing your grief is not good for your emotional health. It's a wound that can fester and lead to other problems. Talk to someone or write your feelings down, and don't be ashamed to cry.

I made it about six months when my Mom died, then the good old practice I have of pushing feelings down inside backfired on me. I had such major sadness I didn't think I was going to make it.
I couldn't believe that something I had "dealt with" would come back to haunt me, but it did with a passion! Talk with somebody about it, I finally did, better late than never. But it does take a toll on you if you try and handle it all on your own.
