It depends on how much they want to pay you. I used to write all the lyrics and music for my band and I got the lion's share of the profit. Best bet is to establish a music company..

I'm not entirely sure about lyrics, but I know that people who write songs and then sell them can get around $75 K, and probably more, supposing you are a well known writer.

Usually they charge by the song. Established songwriters can charge up to $500,000 for a song. Sometimes it is a collaboratice process, with either the artist or other songwriters. They negotiate deals with artists, as to how many songs they will write for them.
