I know several like her too...That's why Republicans want MAJOR reform in entitlement programs so that only the deserving receive help...other wise it has to go...there are WAYYYYYY more people abusing the system than people want to believe. It needs to be saved for the Elderly and Disabled!! Disaster victims as well...if we eliminated the abuses then these people who REALLY DO need it can get an amount that will make a difference in their lives and not just keep them in poverty!
I have turned a couple of them in and absolutely NOTHING happened! No investigation...in fact one of them told me that someone turned them in and her case worker told her about it. It's anonymous so my name wasn't given, but she got a heads up and our taxes are still getting sent to her!

What your neighbor is doing is Welfare fraud. It's a felony. She will, eventually get caught. It is frustrating to try to live right and see others doing wrong and prospering. But it is part of life. Drug dealers make more money than I do, and so do those guys that sell bootleg DVD's. That does not make it OK, nor will I ever live that way. Not because I wouldn't like to have money left in the bank before the next payday, but because I can't live looking over my shoulder all the time, wondering if today is the day I'll get caught and go to jail. We who are trying hard to live right will, in the long run, come out ahead. Stay in school - got your degree and your future will be fine. I have enough stress without worrying about what the neighbors are doing. Student loans can be paid off - time in jail does not look good on a resume. Hang in there!

Don't fret, you're doing the right thing and you will earn your just rewards in time. Dedication, hard work and commitment will take you where you want to go. You'll have a good education, self respect, and a great sense of self worth when it's all said and done.
In the end, those who take advantage of the system will have nothing to show for it. At the same time, they sit in the afternoon with a beer in hand, whiling away their time, gaining nothing more than a mere buzz. When you see your neighbor wasting her time, give yourself a pat on the back.
I applaud your efforts and admire your tenacity. Good luck, take care, be well.

I am very glad that your moral way of living your life will keep you a better person, in every way. It is not fair that people find ways to 'beat the system', but, then, you are not that type of person. Be very proud of yourself......truly. I was the first to graduate college in my family, as well. I worked, took up to 23 units a semester, and graduated Pi Gamma Mu. I am still proud that I did it all legally. I can tell you one more 'beat the system' that just floors me. In my County, you can get disability money (a lot!) if you have never worked..........and are on drugs. I worked all my life, hard work, and I am, now, on disability.......age 63, and I make LESS than those on drugs receiving disability. It is very hard for me to make it from month to month. I've never been able to understand what my County is thinkin'!

Turn her in - make her get off her lazy rear and really work for a living. The people who give her money under the table are just enabling her.
We need a systems for those who truly cannot work to support themselves, tragedy does strike and our fellow man needs taken care of. But that system cannot do what it is designed to when people who are just lazy abuse it.
The devil in all this is that if the government tightens down it's really only going to catch those who are boarderline in needing help - not those who are knowingly living off of others. They, unfortunately know how to get around the system. That is why they have to be turned in, or you just have to accept that is how things are.

I know how you feel, but unfortunately thousands of people do it and get away with it. Keep working and achieve your goals, never give up. At least you will have a great sense of pride in your accomplishments and the satisfaction of actually earning what you have. That is something no one can just give her.

I don't like it either, and I'm on disability! I've had four heart attacks and a Sudden Cardiac Death. I live on less than $1000 a month from Social Security. I can't work, but I would if I could. How do you feel about that?

Have you heard some politicians say we don't need new laws (for whatever), we just need to enforce the existing laws? Well, you have a perfect chance to help enforce existing law. It may be a drop in the bucket in the big scheme of things, but you can't fill a bucket without that first drop.

Just keep working as hard as you are now, and one day it WILL pay off. Remember, what goes around, comes around. Plus, sincerely wanting to get a college education is a great endeavor!

It is upseting. However I lived near people on welfare before and they all were trashy and pathetic! I would NEVER want a life like theirs. Dont assume they are living the high life and having fun because they are on welfare. People on welfare have crappy lives that you would NEVER want. So be glad you dont want or need welfare, i am!
