You will each get a debit card that draws off the same joint account. However you will get 1 checkbook, as it is only one account.

Communication is key with a joint account to make sure you do not over draw each other!

When my husband and I signed up for joint checking a month ago, we both requested for debit cards. You don't have to, but we did.

As for 2 checkbooks....uhh bad idea. You have ONE checking account for both of you. You only need one.

We had to purchase checks though.

You will each get a debit card with your own name. You can either get checks that have both parties names or you can get separate checkbooks- one with person A's name and the other with person B's name.

Part of that is up to you. Part of that is up to the institution issuing the checks. You get checks as you buy them. You can share as you please. As far as the debit card goes, that depends upon how many the institution issues and how many you request. Some of this is up to you.
