The media dose not like to credit black people for anything except shootings, robberies and rapes.
The idea of black people being successful hurts them.
Its a shame.

I think that the underlying fact is that people want to associate themselves with success. It's just as you said, while they were in the beginnings of their careers and hadn't made it very far, they were called "black." Now that they've become successful, people (in this case "white") want to associate themselves with that success. They can't call them "white" of course, but calling them "mixed" suffices. Sometimes I wonder if they would have been able to succeed as much as they have if they weren't mixed, if they were just "black." I doubt they would have been given some of the opportunities because of this nasty little superiority complex.
Another funny thing: Barack Obama is mislabelled as Muslim more often than Keith Ellison is thought of as Christian, lol!

Ask the BIA about how many drops of blood make a person one race or another.
Only black blood seems to have so much power.
Goes back to when a person could be enslaved with only a drop of black blood (and in many areas Indian blood).
So it's tradition?
In actuality there is only one race.

Maybe media types think that mixed race sounds better than biracial.
I just think of people as humans, not by their race.
I am mixed race, too. It's just harder to tell with me since my skin is pale.
Most Americans are mixed race. It is just that the media mentions mixed race more often if you look black.

You know you have a point. When Beyonce was in Destiny's Child no one thought of her as being anything but black but now that she's a hot solo artist all of a sudden people want to call her "mixed"
Funny how that works actually

Hilarious - the labels people use. I've even heard people use the word 'white' to describe some people. I have never ever seen a real white person, some blue-veined cheese colour yes, but white, none.

It's WHITE people that define black people as "mixed race" if they are mixed, more than black people or the person themselves. By denying all that you are, you're catering to a white racist mentality that deny's YOU if you are mixed race. That's lame! They should celebrate and make claims to BOTH cultures, after all that's who they are!
Be blessed.

As far as I know, both people mentioned have always admitted to being mixed race. Us, as Black people, decided to categorize them as Black (which is fine because most other races categorize them as Black as well).
