We have the ability to stop hungar and move poverty to a much higher position than its current worse case now, but what is needed in universal respect for each other, if we all had that there could be no war.

For those who want a taste of Gene Roddenberry's vision, just pop along to a Trek Convention and see how everybody gets along together.
I for one would love to see Gene's vision made a reality, unfortunately we come up against the human condition. This will alway give us, to paraphrase Goerge Orwell "All men are equal, but some are more equal than others". It does not stop us however doing our part to make his dream a relity within our own lives.

Roddenberry's vision was still a problem for me. The Klingon race was still a "dark" race and savage in their violence. This is often how blacks were perceived in the 60s. Differences in cultures were not tolerated across the "galaxy".
The technology was interesting.
We're not advanced enough for that type of society. We'd simply bring prejudice and war into more regions.

I'm not sure that's realyl a fair question since his vision was basically utopian.
As you mentioned, nobody is hungry, everything can be replicated by almost inexhaustible power supplies. There is no more war (at least among humans on earth), etc...
I think it would be hard to find someone who DOESN'T want that.

Beam me there. No hunger, no money, no World Wars (apart from those pesky Cardassians, Romulans, Borg etc), Warp travel. Hell yeah, count me in.
Ooh and replicators, site to site transporters and my fave, holo-suites. The ultimate in virtual reality.
I wouldn't kiss Capn. Kirk, I know where he's been!!

Not at all, its far too uniform and opressive! Maybe some sort of in between measure that could cut the poverty and war etc.

People floating around in spaceships whose interior looks about as interesting as an office cubicle, spouting bromides about "progress" in a repressive, secularist environment, where difference is a costume everyone is wearing, rather than a real ethos of existence-- absolutely insufferable.
