I have always thought that smokers should have to pay for smoking in a nonsmoking room, like they do in some hotels.
It's written into the contract they sign upon check-in and charged to the credit-card when they upon inspection by the maid when they leave....This gives the hotel one day to air out the room, and you have to wash the bedspreads, and spray it down with something like Fabreeze..I don't know the name of the machine but there is an air-cleaner that they use, and it cleans the air quickly. You could google that!
Good luck. I don't understand why smokers ask for non smoking rooms...

I found the perfect product for this that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a natural carbon product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just hang a few of these in problem area. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I wish some of the hotel rooms used these, especially in refrigerators and closets. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and internet. Definitely worth trying

You can never really ever remove the smoke from a hotel room. You can try many products to mask the odors, but you can't eliminate them completely, unless you repaint the walls, replace the carpeting & furniture, replace the bedding, towels, replace the draperies, etc. If you are a guest in that "non smoking" room, shame on you. Have some respect for a person who has prepaid for a non smoking room. Many people have COPD, emphysema, & other breathing disorders, & have to have a smoke free room.

It may take a long time to get the odour out, but can be done.

1. use a portable electric fan to take fresh air and exhaust the air out.

2. Mattress and pillows and upholstered furnishings may need special treatment. There are product that you can spray, some work some do not but you can try.

3. Create one room to sanitise the stuff in that room.
Then air the empty room completely, if required paint it after deodorisation, you may have to change the carpeting and the padding. Other type of flooring is more forgiving. Ceiling tiles is some thing else.

4. Search for the product on Internet, at a convention ask other owners to find out what has worked for them.

Clean the walls with

1/2 cup of 20 Mule Team Borax
2 gallons hot water
1/2 teaspoon liquid dish detergent
1 tablespoon ammonia

Then seal the walls by painting, using 2-3 coats of Kilz, primer. Paint as usual.

For overnight success in removing smoke odors, place several bowls of vinegar around the room, close all doors, and allow to sit overnight.

Had the same problem. Fabreez doesn't last. Put a stainless steel bowl with a little water in it in the car at least overnight. When I first heard this, I tried a large stainless steel spoon on a damp paper towel, and was amazed. Be sure the windows are up, by the way. I've also used a peeled apple rolled in coffee grounds. Worked about as well as Fabreez.

Fresh air is always best! If you really want to get rid thoroughly, you will need to wash curtains, shampoo carpet, wipe down every surface with something like a sugar soap solution.

Apparently half an onion placed in the corner of the room overnight can be very good.

Fe-breeze...safer than vodka, and cheaper. Now tell the truth, you are a guest smoking in a non-smoking room and don't want to get busted with the extra cleaning bill. Been there done that, and the Fe-breeze worked.

you can buy an ionizer (or rent one). it does clean the air. it may take overnight depending on how strong the odors have penetrated. This is similar to what a used car dealer might do to a car before he tries to sell it. It pulls the scent from the air conditioning and vents as well. try at a local rental first (one that might rent lawn and garden equip, etc)
