I have heard from numerous reputable sources that it is very difficult to determine whether a skinned large cat is either a tiger or a lion, unless you know what to look for. I would think this would indicate that its a wash in muscle mass. Diet, genetics, and actual age would be factors. Both are their largest and in their prime between 4-7 years, so older would be smaller. Also keep in mind that there are differences in lion sizes pending area.

In short, I think its too close to call!

The tiger has more muscle mass than the lion because it is larger. I don't know which cat would have more muscle mass if they were the same weight.

Interesting question. What motivated you to ask it?

This depends, but I have heard at equal sizes Lions have more muscle mass.
