The pro side I feel is it gets people interested in animals that we normally wouldn't ever see or know about. Also, it helps with keeping certain species from extinction.

The down side is that they are taken from their environment, and some zoos as we know take better care of their animals than others...

Animals being kept in captivity serves many purposes. It allows the physical and behavioural study of many species, which can help their counterparts in the wild. This includes the saving of some species from extinction, by allowing 'danger-free' breeding to occur ensuring youngsters reach maturity in reasonable numbers.
Zoos allow people from all walks of life to see all sorts of animals at close quarters and quite safely.
As long as the conditions in which the animals are kept are created carefully to allow for a happy and comfortably stimulating environment, there is no reason why the experience cannot be enjoyed by all, and especially the animals, and particularly those at the bottom of a food chain as they do not have to be alert and anxious all the time.

maximum Zoos at present have very sturdy breeding classes, and have succeeded in breeding some animals that are on the critically endangered lists. Zoos additionally serve a objective for animals that have been injured interior the wild, and have been rehabilitated, yet no longer able to return to the wild, the zoo has been a shelter for those animals. maximum Zoos even have the final centers and vets reachable in case of emergencies. i think of at present Zoo's have become lots extra useful places for distinctive animals, as there are additionally so lots extra regulations for them to stick to, in comparison to years in the past, the place Zoo's have been seen as merciless, and housed animals in cramped cages and so on.. at present the animals have extra freedom, and likewise distinctive the bigger zoo' s have replicated the animals habitats.

i think the only reason animals should be kept in captivity is if they're a dying breed and are being encouraged to breed further, but saying that the environment should reflect their natural habitat..... i'm from africa and i just know that animals are so much happier doing their own thing in their own space, i can't even go to a zoo, it breaks my heart that they're just freak shows for people......i know i'm not a professional and someone will give you a full blown scientific answer so to say but i just think, animals in a zoo is like people watching big brother, it's not natural and in most cases cruel.......

the pros are that they are safer in zoos and not killed by hunters so i think captivity is a good thing, even though the animal's freedom is somewhat crushed. How about safari parks. there is much more space for animal's to roam safely, these get my vote.

No they shouldnt, unless they are particularly endangered due to mankind. There is no point saving animals that are just not strong enough to survive - its a natural process of survival and evolution.
