This is the game where the mets came back with two outs in the 9th. The Red Sox needed one out to win the World Series. But the Mets won the game after a great rally and Bill Buckner's blunder (the ball that rolled through his legs). The Mets later won Game 7 and the World Series.

I was watching the game with a friend, another Red Sox lifelong fan, and said "you know, they're going to lose tomorrow." He grimaced and replied "yeah, I know."

Well, we were slightly wrong. It rained, and Game 7 was pushed back a day. But we knew.

i remember the game and i remember the expression on my and my friends faces when that ball rolled thru Billy Buckner's legs. a look of disbelief. you have to understand the Mets earlier in the inning had already started a rally and had everyone sitting on the edge of there seats, but when we all watched Mookies slow roller to Buckner we knew it was all over and the Red Sox had won the pennant. As history has it you know the rest of the story, the Mets went on to win the World Series and Became Champs and Bosox and Buckner became legends of lore (Curse of the Bambino)
I remember sitting up with my friends that evening, we must have talked about that error well into the wee hours of the morning. as fortune would have it Bill Buckner had rather an above average career in the Majors but will always and only be remembered by this error.
Unless you haven't been paying attention each time Boston is in the World Series there is some kind of drama, (IE Fisk Home Run, Buckner's error, Schillings Sock). What will it be this year ?? if the Sox make it to the Show ??

It was magical. Not only were the Mets one out away from losing the series they can within 1 strike of losing it on two separate occasions/batters.

It was truly fairy tale and Vin Scully was a great story teller doing the game.

In Buckner's defense, he should have never been on the field. The Sox had another player on the bench that they usually put in for defensive purposes but McNamara didn't do it. In addition to that, the Red Sox lead game 7 by 3 runs and blew that lead as well. Can't blame Buckner for that.

An all-time classic! Too bad I was only a year old and didn't see it live!

And, as any Mets fan will say, Mookie would have made it to first anyway. He was just too fast.

Thing is, too many people think that if Buckner makes the play, the Red Sox win. But the game was already tied, just ask Bob Stanley! Buckner would have only brought the game into the 11th inning...that is, of course, if Mookie didn't outrace him anyway.

Too bad for Buckner. Too many people forget that he got them to that point.

But yes, an all-time classic game. One of the few where most serious baseball fans know the story.

That replaced into the third ideal Mets Postseason video games I even have ever considered. activity 7 of the '86 international sequence and activity 5 of the 1999 NLCS (Robin Ventura's grand slam single) have been a million and a couple of.

I heard Bill Buckner was so distraught he wanted to kill himself. He actually walked on to a busy road in front of an on-coming car... but it went right between his legs.

I think that it's the greatest WS game ever played. I have this nagging suspicion that given the depth that Buckner was playing at , even if he picks it clean Wilson would still be safe.

I bet Buckner still has nightmares about that day, like how Tony Romo probably still has nightmares about his fumbled snap. =]
