They pay you about $20 dollars for the platinum. You cannot buy old worn out converters. You must replace emissions control parts to make your car pass smog testing. Some times when a converter breaks up pieces of it get blown back into the engine or it cloggs the mufflers. Buy new or get a check engine light again.
