I really don't think JK will kill Harry (she'd be getting death threats for the rest of her pampered life!), but I'm worried that Ron or Hermione will die. Any ideas on what to expect with the last novel???

Oh Phillip, I hope you're wrong about Harry being a horcux..Pakita88- I'm hoping for a Sirius resurrection too!
Bart S - I so agree with you! I really think Neville will be directly involved in Voldemort's demise. Whether it's a suicide mission-I'm not sure. Webboffin-I have a life. I have a husband and 2 very active boys.My life is full. I read JK's Harry Potter so I can escape my full, but sometimes overwhelming life. I have looked forward to each and every Harry Potter novel, not only because I used to want to be a witch (I dream of Jeannie) when I was a child, but because it's good reading. I hate these people who rag on Harry Potter, saying it's for kids! IT'S FOR ANYBODY WHO HAS EVER DREAMED! Please don't pass judgement on those who enjoy the Harry Potter novels, until you have read them yourself!

I am very ready for the final book--just have to finish rereading the first six. As far as my ideas:

1. Harry is not a horcrux! (This idea makes no sense in light of the prophesy for one, and why would Voldemort put part of his soul into someone he might have to fight anyway. Also, if he kills Harry, he's wasted part of his soul. It would also mean that Harry would have to loose a killing curse just after Voldemart loosed a killing curse against him--that is very tricky timing!).

2. Pettigrew still has a debt to Harry and that debt will be collected upon.

3. Neville will find his strength and confidence.

4. Bill Weasley's marriage will be the scene of a big fight, and maybe the death of one of the major characters.

5. Draco Malfoy will not be a major factor, unless he admits to himself that he is in over his head with the Deatheaters and turns coat.

6. We will find out that Harry is Dumbledore's heir, and among the things he gets is the pensieve and a bunch of very instructive memories.

7. About deaths:

First, we are assuming that either Harry or Voldemort dies. I believe that Harry lives, because it is a children's/YA series after all and the central character of such series never die, JKR will not buck that canon.

Otherwise: My handicapping, in order of likelihood (IMHO):

Ron, Percy, Pettigrew, Fred/George, Neville, Lupin, Hagrid, Hermione, Petunia, Dudley, Tonks, Mr./Mrs. Weasley, Malfoy, Ginny, Bill, Fleur, Luna, Snape

8. Finally, about Snape:
Snape is Snape. He is beyond the sort of simplistic categorization as "good" or "evil", IMHO. I do believe he is not as evil as he appeared at the end of HBP. It would take too much space to really go into this in detail, but consider this:

It is well known that Snape played the double-agent prior to the death of Harry's parents, and there is no reason to believe he wasn't still a double agent on the anti-Voldemort side. Why then did he bind himself to the success of Draco's mission and then actually kill Dumbledore?
My answer: Dumbledore knew that destroying Slytherin's ring had fatally wounded him and Snape knew so too. Therefore he allowed himself to be bound to Dumbledore"s death, a death he knew was imminent and against which he knew Dumbeldore had taken precautions to ensure that his death would not derail the anti-Voldemort movement.

Now, on the other hand, if Snape has turned coats; why did he not kill Harry* or disable him and take him helpless to Voldemort? JKR made it clear that Harry is no match for Snape as a wizard (yet). If you look at Snapes "taunts" at Harry and put them into anyone else's mouth, they're very good advice on what Harry needs yet to learn to fight strong adult wizards on anything like equal terms.
My answer is that Dumbledore at some point shortly after Harry was orphaned made Snape take an unbreakable vow to protect Harry. This fits in perfectly with Snape's actions toward Harry in the books thus far. Yes, Snape is a mean SOB to Harry, but that is Snape's personality, and he didn't vow to be nice to Harry after all.

My conclusion is that in Book Seven, Snape will act covertly and eventually overtly to aid Harry, that he will likely live, and that Harry will be just as in the dark over Snape's motivations as when Harry entered Hogwarts. (BTW, the above is why I don't think Harry will die. If I'm right, then Snape dies too if Harry dies, and Snape is the ultimate survivor).

I wish people telling other people to be patient and not to speculate would just mind their own buisness...specutalting is part of the fun and with a book like this do really expect everyone to just finish book six put it down and forget it until book seven when this book has been so much for so many people over the years! To some people these books are a sancutuary a place where they can leave the life they live for a brief while and be somewhere else! Its not like any of us really know what is going to happen we just assume or speculate!
Now as for what to expect in the final novel...Any good writer is going to hit all the emotions...Ron will probably get a big moment along with Hermione...They will get together or die together! Harry will be alone at some point in time with Voldemort I would like it if they went through the veil! as for The weasly family I think they will suffer a loss! As harry dying I just cant make up my mind and I am kind of glad that I cant that way I still get the suprise of what happens but am prepared to deal with both! Harry could be a horacrux(Spelling?) because maybe the scar is a mark on the horacrux cause I remember somewhere saying there was a lightning bolt on the ring which was a horacrux! But maybe he's not! Until the end we wont kno:(! Either way death or life he will go down in history and his spirits will live on through the stories!
Hope this helped!
Taylor

The Order of The Phoenix or The Deathly Hallows. I remember really enjoying The Order of The Phoenix. Harry as Teacher, Breaking into Ministry headquarters, Sirius dying & Harry's destiny being revealed, that scene in Hog's Head when everyone is discussing Harry's past exploits. It was all epic

I know I am soooo excited. Lol. I really dont think that Harry or Ron are going to die. I mean Harry just cant it would be horrible and Ron has already had a big major Oh crap moment when we thought he might die.
What worries me is when JKR says "Im surprised that people arent more worried about Hermione. I see her as a very vulnerable character."
I hope she will be ok.
I also hope Neville will get his revenge on Bellatrix Lestrange.
I used to be so convinced that Snape is evil I mean he killed Dumbledore so come on! Alot of people dont think so though. They are starting to convice me I dont know though I still think he is...
Oh well I guess we will see. :D
Cant wait!!!

42 days and the wait will be over!
I doubt if there was ever a plan to kill Harry, since good must be seen to triumph over evil in what was originally written as a children's book.
I think one of the other major characters (my guess is Neville) will have to 'fall on a grenade', so to speak, to save the others. And there may well be something 'open-ended' about the book, leaving just a tiny chance of a follow-up.......

Yeah, I agree, I don't think Harry will die. And I don't think Ron or Hermione will die either because they have to end up together!
I still wish that Sirius would come back.
And I'm SOO not ready for the final book to come out. Because, after that.. what's next? Nothing :( I'm used to growing up thinking "wow, only XX more months for the next HP book"

But the reason we feel harry is the horcrux is because of the scar, a kind of connection with Big V, which leads to the speculation as to why harry must die, to destroy V once and for all

I think Neville is more important because of his birthday. I think there's a link between him and HP - Neville is the real HP!

Snape - he's got to be bad! Is he - isn't he - is he?

Yes she did say someone's got to die - think it will be Ron, I'm afraid.
