If Elvis had never been born Chuck Berry would be the King Of Rock and Roll. As far as I'm concerned he already is.

Elvis did not invent rock & roll..so it would still have shown up without him. I would have to agree with Chuck Berry being the king if it weren't for Elvis.

In the narrative of the History of Rock n Roll series on PBS, they mentioned the rise of Black R&Bs, harmonies, Blue Knight Records, MoTown, the Platters and this movement was gaining success, mainly because vinyl allowed a faceless performance. Then, along comes Elvis and all of that before him was shunted aside. Elvis was original in his own way and the live performance ability gave him the edge. But, you're right, Elvis owes a little something to the pioneers before him.

Possibly Chuck Berry. I really love Elvis though. Just visit Graceland 3 weeks ago. Very interesting. He was a very talented man that could act, entertain and served our country. His home tells all. A blend of elegance and parties. He was so neat. My favorite song from Elvis was "Little Less Conversation". That song still makes me want to dance.
