It is best to use thread sealant. Teflon tape works the best for this application. Start the tape 1/8 " back from the end of the fitting then rotate the fitting the same direction ( clockwise) as you would to thread it in.

I am a Mechanic and work on hydraulics also . It is very important to use tape or liquid pipe dope (liquid Teflon) . Pipes all use a tapered thread small at beginning and larger at the end of the threads. The pipes will press together as they go together. the tape or dope will help fill any open void s int the treads and make it so you only have to do the job once.

Pipe compound and teflon tape are lubricants. They help assure that the fittings and pipe seat all the way to prevent leaks. Best to use it.

Yes !!! Plastic pipe thread is course and sometimes not real well molded... Do use teflon tape.

If they never need to come apart use pvc glue. I guarantee it won't leak. Works great for sprinkler systems where the pipe needs to be cut anyway to make a repair.

Yes use it or you could use teflon paste i prefer to use it over the tape cause it is easer to work with.
