My 7 wk old infant daughter has colic & in the last 3 weeks she has started not going to the bathroom but is not constipated. I've gone to the doctor regular & ER 1 time & it isn't helping. I have been unable to let her go for the week that they say a breastfed baby can wait until going poop b/c she is inconsolable with pain if I do. Shes breastfed, takes simethicone regularly & given glycerin suppositories as dr recc'd up to 2/day but still having pxs. I've tried baking soda & sugar as recc'd for sour stomach. I've tried diluted prune juice as recc'd but it hasn't helped. I try rubbing/pressure on her tummy which she doesn't like, patting back, bouncing, holding, walking, white noise, vibrations, dark room, try diapering & feeding too. When she goes poop, it is liquid but everyday her tummy rolls, she strains squirms and cries & nothing comes out. If I wait 24+ hours to see if she goes, all she leaves is skid marks in her diaper, & is inconsolable day & night. Any suggestions?

oh sweeite, Im so sorry how hard it is when you have a little baby that is upset like that.
At 7 weeks a breastfed babies poo is always runny, I am breastfeeding my 5 month old and his is still very loose. Exclusively Breastfed babys dont usually get constipated. they can often go a day or two between motions and be fine.

Are you sure she is constipated? I ask this because everything youve mentioned reminds me of colic, but colic isnt related to consitpation, it is a completely different thing. Colic is awful too as theres no good reason for it and nothing they can do.

If I were you, I would try NOT giving baby anything for a few days, as the extra things you give could infact give her wind and make her tummy hurt. I dont think they are necessairly making things worse, but 7 week old babies who are completely breastfed (no formula) dont need anything at all usually as breast milk is enough.

I wish I could be more help. I know how you feel, I have been there with my 3rd baby who had colic and reflux.

I would like to suggest you try an osteopathic Therapist (massage specalist) who does cranial massage (massages the head and shoulders etc) as that helped wonders wiht my daughters colic.

Goodluck, either way I hope shes better soon, I know it might be hard to believe, but she wont be like that forever.

Please do keep up with the doctor if you feel something is wrong, sometimes the mums can just tell (mothers instint)

*HUGS*

Besides the gas drops and infant suppositories, they is really nothing you can do. I had the same problem around the same age with my 10 month old. It's the age for this to happen. Hopefully you are not feeding her anything other than formula/breast milk. Cereal will definitely back her up at this age. I had a real ruff time from 2-4 months until things got better. We had to switch her on soy formula because of this... Good luck! I know what you are going through it's very tough! Don't worry tough it out and things will get better. You might have to let her cry for a minute while you go outside and catch your sanity!! :(

I feel for you because i went through the same thing with my newborn 8 years ago. she had chronic constipation with hers though and she was breast fed too.
the doctors would try to give her baby laxatives but nothing worked with all the gas ,constant gas and bloating. she cried herself to sleep every day. she had the problem for 2 whole months . i finally took her to a herbalist who put her on all natural remedies like chamomile tea in her bottle. it worked with the gas and pain.
try going to an herbalist where you live natural is always better.
we still do the herbs with my daughter and shes healthy and strong.
try it, inquire about it
poor little thing... i feel for her.
let me know what happens.

2 things immediately jumped out at me from your post--the first being the simethicone. It is known to cause constipation especially in very young babies. Try gripe water instead.
The other is that you are breastfeeding, that's great for both of you, however, you may want to try altering our own diet.
