No I don't think it's fair. We are the ones who work! Not them! I think everybody should be drug tested who work and need assistance. I work in retail and I wait on people with foodstamps everyday and some of them are the rudest people in the world. They don't realize what the working class does for them. It makes me mad that I have to work so they can sit on their butts and do nothing.

Currently federal law requires most people receiving Federal funds to do some form of drug testing. The only exception would be people with Disabilities, SSI, and other forms of guaranteed Federal income.

States also usually require some form of testing, although it may be done on a random basis, but this is more of a state's rights issue, and they do decide for their own particular state on a case by case basis.

As far as working class people getting tested, well I don't personally see the need for it and I believe it's a violation of privacy, but what can I say? If people want to stop it, form unions and put a stop to it; other than that, I don't know what to do.

Not all people have to take a drug test to get hired..

And, as far as public assistance, yes, I feel its a good idea for drug testing.

I think drug tests are being used too much in general.

Pretty soon we will need one(and pass it) to get a loan, buy a car or rent an apartment! Big Brother is coming soon!

I have no problem with being drug tested. I also have no problem with part of the taxes I pay being used to help people.

I'm pretty sure that at least some of the people requesting assistance get tested, as well.

I'm generally not a big fan of drugs, but I also think as long as what you do doesn't affect anyone else it shouldn't matter. I don't see any reason why they should require a drug test, unless drug-use is causing problems at your job.

There are drug tests for assistance...they did urinalysis on my son and me both when I had pregnancy medicaid...hth

btw not EVERYONE on assistance sits on their bootay...when I had it I was working in a warehouse stacking pallets of computer monitors for 8-10 hours a day until I was 8 months pregnant, when my DOCTOR told me to stop.

Before I answer your question, a comment for Christina H....

"They have no idea what the working class does for them?" Why would anyone past gade three and not a hillbilly assume that anyone on wefare has never worked before? If, God forbid, you lose everyhing you have and have to resort the indignity of welfare, you'd probably resent your own comment.

I agree with that (i) no one should have to undergo a drug test without probable cause and (ii) since the dumb policy's in place, it should apply across the board.

What part don't you like
Work?, the drug testing?, paying taxes?, the others getting assistance?

What a brilliant suggestion. That would eliminate almost 80% of welfare wouldn't it?
