Yes, it is possible, but extremely rare.
It simply means she had two ovulations within a month, which happens occasionally, just usually not once an egg has implanted. It is also unusual to have the second egg fertilised and implanted into the womb along with the first, but it is entirely possible and has happened before. People have gone on to deliver one child and remain pregnant with the other. I'm sure the doctor would have confirmed it and both pregnancies..although I would somewhat question her knowledge of being both 9 and 6 wks pregnant, as she would have had no ultrasounds at that time.

Superfetation happens when twins are conceived many days or weeks apart from two separate ovulations and from two different fathers or the same father, the second one after the first has already implanted. Superfecundation are twins with different fathers but ovulations the same day.Superfetation happens when twins are conceived weeks apart from ovulation happening on different days. For superfetation to happen, two things have to happen:
1. You have to ovulate twice (dizyogtic) several weeks apart
2. You did get pregnant again after the first fetus has already implanted
Multiple ovulations happen in about 1% or more of all ovulations, more often so when you take ovulation-inducing medications, but they usually happen wit a day of each other.
The result of two pregnancies happening weeks apart is that the two twins are in different developmental stages and one fetus is more advanced in pregnancy then the other. This is an extremely rare event in humans and has been reported only a few times. Superfetation can happen with the same father or different fathers.

It is possible to ovulate more than one egg per month (fraternal twins) and for them to be released at different times. I've never heard of it happening three weeks apart, however, more like three days apart. It sounds to me like your brother's girlfriend was pregnant with twins that aren't/weren't measuring the same gestation. That happens a lot -- you can have a 27-week-old fetus that's measuring behind by three weeks, etc. My friend was carrying twins, she lost one and the remaining one, while healthy, is measuring behind by almost a month. So, since it's relatively early in the pregnancy for your brother and his girlfriend, if one twin was measuring behind, they just might not have seen both of them on the ultrasound at first.

yes it is possible. My cousin found out she was pregnant at about 5 weeks with one baby. Her doctor thinks that it was twins and miscarried one and her body didn't relize it and released another egg because a few weeks later she had another ultrasound done and there was 2 babies in there. One still a little blob and one that was clearly developing... they were about 4 weeks apart.

Yes, it is possible. Some women ovulate more then once in their cycle. So, if they have sex and get pregnant with one the first time they ovulate and the ovulate again with having sex sometime around when they ovulate. They can become pregnant with two separate pregnancies.

some women can ovulate more than one time in a month (or release more than one egg at ovulation) it is rare...its also possible that the dr misinterrpreted a twin ultrasound with one twin smaller than the other...no way to know for sure

yes it is possible, sometimes the body does not realise the first pregnancy right away,so that it is possible that she becomes pregnant another time.this might also be an explanation why she lost the first one..her body not actually accepted that pregnancy.
