Great advice about the spelling study.

My advice is to get into the habit of recreational reading one hour a day. Best time is at night. Go to the public library, and check out several novels. Let's see, going into 9th grade, well, if you like fantasy, my 10th grader loves Tamora Pierce novels. Eragon is very popular and its sequel.
If you are the cheerleader sort, you'd probably like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Ask the librarian for help in picking out books you will read and enjoy. The emphasis here is on enjoy. You won't keep reading if you do not find some type of book that you enjoy, so you must find what you like.
The reason for reading an hour a day, do it at bedtime, go to bed a little early and start reading and read yourself to sleep--very important habit to start now, is so you will score high on the college entrance tests. Reading is so much fun, but poeple won't do it unless they think it will help them. Well, reading will help you, far more than watching tv will. Reading is a skill like bike riding, you have to do it a lot to get good at it. And you use reading in a job and on college tests and in college. So reading is an important skill to improve in. Reading all the time is really the only way you will improve.

And the benefits! My kid got 800 (the top score) on the SAT in critical reading, and she got a 32 on the ACT in reading (top score is 36) all from reading fun books. She doesn't read the "important" books like John Steinbeck novels, etc. she reads John Grisham novels, etc. But because they ar so enjoyable, she keeps on reading, and building up her speed and vocabulary, and that is why she does well in high school and will do well in college. And she had fun doing it!

So my advice--read at least 1 hour a day, and 2 hours a day on the weekends, and at least 2 hours a day in the summer. You will do so much better in school if you do!

Oh, and it takes a while to see an improvement in reading speed, so you have to start now to improve by 11th grade.

I advise you to spend the summer studying spelling. Here's how this question should read (corrections are CAPITALIZED: "I'm due to go to Kingsmead Technology CollEge (IT'S) a high school) in September. Is THERE ANY... Also, be careful of homophone: 1) there=in that location, 2) their=belonging to them 3) they're=the are 4) its= belonging to it 5) it's=it is. 6) NAMES of persons and places begin with a CAPITAL letter. Good luck.
