I used to tell my daughter that my job as an adult was to make sure the things she watched or heard were okay for someone her age. As an example, letting a 5 year old watch a horror movie only frightens them because they don't really understand it's just pretend. A 13 year old may enjoy it, and understand that it's only a movie.

I used to tell my daughter it would be easier for me to let her do whatever she wanted, but I cared too much about her. I was going to be a good adult and a good parent, and make sure what she saw and heard was appropriate.

One of the ones which annoyed her was I wouldn't let her watch "Fatal Attraction", even as a teenager. I told her it was too intense, and she could watch it when she was an adult. She watched it as an adult, called me up immediately after, and told me I was absolutely right, it was too intense. (*lol*)

Start by explaining to them the difference between kids and adults...

... and then tell them which one they are ...

too much explaining just leads to more questioning of your authority ... just tell 'em.... unless they are old enough to understand, then you shouldn't bother trying.

....Works for me

try the "there's a time and a place for everything" speech. add "when you are an adult" to the end of the sentence, and leave it at that. good luck.

Make it seem like what you're doing isn't fun at all... rather an obligation :D

Well, tell them its kind of like how men have to shield women from seeing certain things. Its because we love them and know that it would be inappropriate for ladies or upset them too much because of their fragile mind to see or hear.
