I have seen painting go up in value if a artist dies

I was just wounding if the same go for collectible items

It does, but not every time, don't use this system as a general guide of thumb.

It totally depends if it is truly the end of the items he created. If the items are still being created under his licensing agreement, they can be produced forever. Look at Charles Shultz's Peanuts characters.
