I left my window open without being in the room a few days ago and when I came back I found this purplish solid, which I assumed it to be bird droppings, on my bed. It's not watery and white like most bird droppings. Why is it purple and does it carry any harmful bacteria etc.?

The bird had probably eaten some kind of berries. I notice this color of droppings in the spring and summer when berries are ripe. Birds love berries. I don't know if it has harmful bacteria, but a hot laundry job with color-safe bleach should kill any. You may also have to use a spot stain remover. Hope this helps!

The color of a birds dropping is based in part on what the bird has had to eat.

The birds have been feasting on berries, most likely blackberries which are ripe this time of year.
