So around 3 AM I woke up with a sensation of water in my ear. I laid there for probably a half an hour, poking my finger in my ear every once in a while and it wouldn't go away. I finally got up and twisted a piece of toilet paper and stuck it in my ear as far as it would go and it came out clean. I tilted my head to the side and suddenly felt something slide out and heard a little plop in my sink. It was an EARWIG!!! So I am completely freaked out and cant sleep because I can't find anything online about whether I should go to the doctor or something. What should I do!?!?!?!

PS. For the record, EVERY website I have browsed with my question says that earwigs getting into people's ears is a myth. Well I can ABSOLUTELY assure you it is NOT a myth! Anyway, I did think about going to the doctor but I dont have health insurance at the moment. All I am really worried about is the possibility of eggs or something. Has anyone else heard of this? I do remember that story of the boy that had TWO spiders living in his ear but that is as close as I can find to my situation....

Sept 7, 2014 - I woke this morning at 4am and could hear and feel something in my ear. It was freaking me out. I ran a Q-tip and couldn't feel anything, tilted my head and put water in my ear and then turn my head the other way and a damn earwig fell out and into the sink. I grabbed a pillow from the floor when I went to bed and that sucker must have been on the pillow. I am still freaked out and it is now 10am. Yes it can happen.

It is only a myth until it happens to you...but I actually did not question the myth because it makes sense in a way. For example the earwigs body is flat and perfect match to fit through your ear hole, and their pinchers to cause damage. Unfortunately I had to experience a nasty earwig in my ear today. It is the most scariest feeling when you feel something abnormal in your ear, however the fer gets worse once it comes out and you see what was in your ear.

Daughter woke at up 5am with earwig in ear. She heard crackling in her eye and said is hurt. I had the mom s otoscope and saw the earwig plain as day! I tried flushing it out with coconut oil. It did not come out. We went to ER. What the oil did for us was to kill the earwig, no more pain from movement. The Dr. flushed out the ear with water...still no earwig. He took the forceps and pulled out the earwig in three sections! We were on the right track. Need to buy some forceps or flush out myself with syringes...dr. said when he worked in Chicago that bugs in the ear were common especially cockaroaches...bugs would crawl in and not be able to crawl back out...ewww....

I just had one last night!!!!!! Stupid of me....I put Q tips, which made the bug to go further inside, then I heard loud noise in my air, as if I was in a room with many industrial fans. I first thought I had somehow ruptured my eardrum. Then, I heard loud gushing noises. I was panicking and screaming for a few minutes trying to get the thing out. I put water in my ear and turn my ear to the floor, then it fell off on my bathroom counter. I still have aches and Dr. prescribed antibiotic ear drops. I still feel uncomfortable in my ear.... stupid HMO, I can t go to a specialist!

I had one in my ear and let me tell you... OMG!!! I spent hours last night in bed hearing this horrible noise in my ear. I too went to the internet thinking I would find help. NO... just that it s a myth. Well, it s no myth. It s horrible. I put 2 drops of vegetable oil in my ear and it fell out on the floor. I saved it of it so that my husband would not think I m crazy. This happens and it is really horrible. I just put a few drops of peroxide in my ear to heal whatever damage this little bug did.

Vegetable oil works when poured into the ear, however this method suffocates the earwig and non-invasive techniques should be used for removal.

Go to sleep. Unless you're having severe ear pain. loss of hearing, abnormal ear discharge, or blood coming out of your ear, you'll be just fine.
