Efficiency is unitless because its output divided by input. So if we are using Energy (the SI unit is JOULES) the output would be measured in joules and the input would be measured in joules so they would cancel out top and bottom rendering efficiency unitless.

Efficiency can also be a function of power which is measured in watts, but again when we divide one by the other the watts cancel out.

efficiency has no units, it is a ratio of output compared to input expressed as a percentage.
Joules is the unit of enegy - 1 Joule = 1 Newton metre
