i was only thinking this because the girl on big brother said she wasnt offended but they still threw emily out

some people are really offended when people are saying things about their hair colour like the children in the news this week so if one of the contestants said oh you are such a blonde bimbo, or ginger would big brother throw them out

I think that if you think calling someone Blonde or Ginger is the same as what Emily said ...

Then ..... well ... you must be blonde .... ;-)

Thats just ridiculous, being bullied for being blonde, ginger, bald, having acne, bad teeth, short ...tall .. whatever... is bullying of the school playground variety.... IT IS NOT RACIAL ABUSE!!!!

..and if Charley was a jew being abused.. I don't think the reaction would be the same as it has been.... I dont think that people who don't face abuse know anything about it ...

I am a man and can't physically have babies ... so I will never know that pain... therefore I don't dismiss it... and say that women are exxagerating...

If you are not blonde.. maybe you'll understand the analogy ;-)

People of a different hair colour do not have a past history of losing their liberty and lives because of it.

Just because the word is accepted within the street and hip-hop cultures, you have to understand that they represent a tiny minority of black opinion and that the vast majority of black people still understandably find it an extremely offensive word.

OK - so she may not have meant it, and may have been being ironically "street". But unless the girl has been living in a cave in Tora Bora or somewhere equally remote for the last six months, she must have been aware that C4 would not tolerate any controversy in the race department. If anything then, what the other contestants - black or otherwise - thought about it was academic, as it was audience consideration that had to be borne in mind. She knew and broke the rules, so she's out. Tough.

I do see where you're coming from. If an English person was called a 'Limey' or one of the older contestants was called a boring old f...t (which is ageist) would anything have been done? I do still agree that it was right to act straight away in this case as it wasn't so much about whether people on Big Brother were offended, but the general public.

Well, one of Gerry's first comments was "I prefer Gingers". So apparently not, except, I guess it was a positive connotation.

Maybe if Emily had said "I prefer n****rs" it wouldn't have been an issue.

But then again gingers and n****rs - its like comparing oranges and apples.

Although there was a news story that a ginger family got hounded out of their home by their neighbours recently.

Noo they wouldn't have. I wouldn't count it as a racist comment. It's more steriotypical.
BB was just getting incrediably worried and over protective since the Shilpa case. I reckon they can't win either way.
People will complain if they chuck someone out, and people would complain if they didn't!

no way. its only offensive if it offends the politically correct. for example the night several of the girls tried to rip of ziggys shorts. i found ot funny. but not a peep of offence. imagine if several fellas did that to a girl. just society today.

You know what I found quite interesting if not confusing how come that if you watch movies with African Americans in the lead roles which I personally think are very funny they use the N****R with without any constraint whatsoever when speaking to each other or very often referring to themselves how does that work?

I think calling a black person the 'N' word is more serious than calling someone blonde
