best way to quench a drought is light steady constant rain. when the ground has been dry and arid for an extended period of time it hardens. you could actually have a bowl of cereal a small whole that is how hard the ground is. if the rain comes heavy and quick. for one you would get flash floods, because the ground has no time to soak up the water and the water just runs to the lower point. steady light rain soaks in the ground. ever seen a sponge that is so dry it is almost deformed and tried to wet it real quick. what happens? water splashes everywhere but the sponge. but when you slowly drop water on it, it will eventually soak it up.

well if it rained over the catchment it would help,but isnt it strange to hear the press say we are in drought when its raining all over the place!!!
