one time, when I was a student at the University of Virginia, I was playing a pick up game in one of the rec facilities during the summer and a bunch of the varsity players and alumni varsity players started filing in to play. Marc Ivaroni (UVa alum and the starting power forward for the recent NBA champion 76ers) and Sampson (about to be a senior at UVa) jumped into our game and started running with us. Second time down the court I was bringing up the ball and I caught Ivaroni's eye as he cut back door and tossed him an ally-oops pass which he slammed down over Ralph Sampson. Ralph kicked us heathens off the court at that point, but it was the greatest athletic moment of my life, lol
I also got to meet the great Bill Russell once. He gave a speech at a small medical research conference I attended and afterwards hung out for well over an hour talking with people. He was really nice and spoke individually for quite a while with everyone who waited to meet him. I thanked him for retiring when he did so that my Knicks could win a couple of championships and he let out one of his famous loud cackles. A great man as well as the greatest winner in the history of basketball.

When I first Visited Chicago in 95 after just coming back from Germany I met Micheal Jordan as he was signing autographs. That guy is huge.
I was only 11 or 12 years old at the time.

It would have to be Lancaster Gordon who is a former Louisville player and went on to play pro with the Clippers. He was selected for the Olympic tryouts when Coach Bobby Knight was coaching and went to Los Angeles for the tryouts. I sent him a congratulations letter to Coach Denny Crum who sent it on to LA. Lancaster was so glad to get the card that he went out and took the time to send me a beautiful postcard and thank you note which I still have. He's back in Louisville now working for CASA and we chat occasionally. Just a genuine nice guy whoo has his head on straight!!!!!!

Ok, don't laugh, but...I met P.J. Brown at work a couple of years ago. I was working at a hospital in New Orleans and he was coming to pick up some meds. He, a female co-worker and I had taken the same elevator when I noticed who he was. I shook his hand and told him I was a fan blah, blah. My female co-worker proceeded to cut me off and started hitting on him relentlessly. He brushed her off and went about his business. THE END.

I meet Sir Charles Barkley at a bar recently. This was shortly after he said the Warriors had no chance against Dallas and yet, they went on to win the series. He was embarrassed on national television so he went to the bar and got wasted. He was so piss drunk that I was able to get my hands on his T-Mobile phone. I deleted D-Wade's number from his 5 and replace it with my number. The next day, he called my phone asking "Who is this? Who is this?". All I kept saying was "Your Daddy".

I've only come into contact with one NBA player, George Gervin... in fact, he may have only been an ABA player. Anyway, so, I'm gonna have to go with the Ice Man.

I saw Jermaine O'Neal in downtown Toronto and got to shake his hand. Man has banana fingers. Also saw Stephon Marbury and Eddy Curry get off their team bus.
